Top Wedding Theme Trends 2014

It’s time once again to look into the future and see what are the top new wedding theme trends in store for newly weds of 2014.

Tastes and trends are always changing so let’s look at some top wedding theme trends 2014, and see what is in store for the happy couple’s big day.

1. Vintage, Vintage, Vintage!

Vintage Gatsby Wedding Theme Trend 2014Vintage Gatsby inspired weddings will be one of the most popular wedding themes in 2014. Think Gatsby Wedding, Downton Abby, Old Hollywood Glamour and Heirloom Wedding. Vintage wedding decorations will include focal pieces such as vintage typewriters, telephones and suitcases. The wedding theme elements will have decorations such as vintage glassware and crockery.  Incorporate dramatic accents like peacock feathers, sequins, pearls and shimmering gold into reception centrepieces and bouquets to reflect a vintage 1920’s style.  To coordinate with this theme flowers are much more traditional – choose garden roses, sweet William, gypsophila, peonies and ranunculus in muted romantic floral hues. Incorporate your own family heirlooms into the decorations to create a more personalised theme – display antiques or vintage furniture or create a backdrop with vintage style family photos.

2. Rustic Glam

Rustic Glam Wedding Theme Trend 2014Rustic is a hugely popular trend from 2013 that is here to stay in 2014 – but with a new twist. Rustic style will now be glammed up and touches of elegance added to their wedding day, such as mixing barn weddings with touches of lace and romantic florals. Decorate with rustic and sophisticated centrepieces made from baskets and buckets filled with flowers like tulips or peonies, and embellish tables with wiry vines.  Add touches of silver sparkle to soft pinks and greys in rustic wedding decorations. Rustic weddings should have beautiful combinations of texture.

3. High Drama Weddings

High Drama Wedding Theme Trend 2014Lights, Camera, Action!  High Drama Weddings are visually dramatic and stunning. Wedding venues should be glamorous settings with high ceilings, large windows and beautiful architecture that has a bit of history. Special effects lighting is used to create the wow factor and things like video walls or LED displays provide a spectacular display. Keep in mind, “bigger is better” when choosing the theme and decorations for the wedding venue. Choose a theme like a “masquerade” or the newly popular “diamond bling”.  High drama weddings aren’t cheap but if you want to spend the money you will create an eye popping wedding that your guests will remember forever. Simply said – these weddings are incredibly impressive and set in dramatic venues.

4. Pure Romance

Pure Romance Wedding Theme Trend 2014Pure Romance really is a timeless and classic theme, and is going to prove very popular in 2014. Think beautiful garden weddings, candlelit ceremonies, receptions lit with chandeliers and anything romantic or feminine.  Choose colours such as reds and soft pinks, creams and whites, and complement with accents like roses, crystals, pearls, and other feminine décor.  Incorporate Parisian touches into your décor to enhance the pure romance theme. When it comes down to it, you are creating a storybook wedding that will melt your heart!

5. Whimsical

Whimsical Wedding Theme Trend 2014A Whimsical Theme could be the perfect choice for you if you desire something more creative so your wedding is something people will never forget. Whimsical themes give way to themes like Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins, Carnivals, etc.  Or bring back the child-like wonder of garden fairies, secret gardens and magic.  Pile on the colour, mix and match, and decorate with vintage pieces. Add to the theme by using fun alternatives to flowers like paper flowers, topsy-turvy cakes, umbrellas, and lots of big balloons, etc.  Break from tradition and create an exciting, super fun day for your guests outdoors that is full of happiness and surprises. (Be sure to read Top 5 Things to Consider when planning your outdoor wedding.)  You could have a bright and fun photo booth, set up games for guests to play such as giant Jenga, croquet, hopscotch or badminton – create a mini carnival to celebrate your big day! Instead of traditional sit down buffet meals, guests can get food from gourmet food truck windows or a BBQ, and eat at picnic tables or sitting on large rugs with soft cushions. Make this theme fun, carefree, and an alternative to more expected themes.

6. Bold Blue & Purple

Wedding Colour Trends 2014Two cool but bold colours are trending for weddings in 2014 – blue and purple. Navy blue wedding themes are going to be combined with off white and soft pinks. Midnight blue with silver will be a big hit, and pair royal blue and gold together for a striking look. Ice blues and greys will also show up in 2014 weddings. However it was “Dazzling Blue” that took out the top spot in Pantone’s top 10 colours of Spring 2014. All blue hues are expected to be very popular wedding theme colour choices.  Number 3 on Spring 2014 list, and the colour that won the overall Pantone Colour of the Year 2014 was “Radiant Orchid”. Pantone describes “Radiant Orchid” as a colour that is “captivating, magical and enigmatic”.  It has an appealing mix of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones.  Use these versatile colours to bring your wedding to life.
