Top Wedding Theme Trends 2016

Over the years brides have tried to recreate their own version of a royal or celebrity wedding. More recently theme ideas are taken straight off a Pinterest board. However in 2016 brides are focussed on creating their wedding in a way that showcases who they are. So here is some of the top wedding theme trends in 2016 to look out for, and some suggestions of how to incorporate the different ideas into your own design.

Wedding Themes

Perfect wedding themes are too boring! Weddings themes are designed with a sense of warmth and familiarity, like if you open your home to guests, and include the couple’s personal spin on romance and fun. Buzz words used to describe this style of theme are things like “unbuttoned elegance” and “perfectly imperfect”.

Wedding ceremonies will be less formal, and instead blend glamour and ease for an elevated wedding experience, as well as have activities that provide guests with some unexpected entertainment. Use dynamic designs that mix and match different styles to create a wedding that is unexpected, bold and completely gorgeous. Gone are the days when a couple had to choose just one style for their wedding day. In 2016 it’s time to mix up themes like rustic chic, backyard, vintage, romance, high drama, or boho – but of course with a touch of glam.

Wedding Dresses

In 2016 you will see brides opt for more modern and chic looks. Look out for non-traditional stunning two piece separates outfits, or a one piece dress but with a removable skirt for the bride to change her look during the wedding reception. Wedding gown designs will elegantly cover the bride’s shoulders and/or arms for a gorgeous romantic look, or, and sometimes instead will have part or all of the back of the gown cut out.

Bridesmaids dresses need not be the same in colour and style and designs can be mix and matched to flatter different body types. Another option, look at two piece or separates designs for your bridesmaids to wear. This will increase the number of times the outfit is worn after the wedding.

Floral Designs

Centrepiece designs should be loose and more natural arrangements and stay under eye level. Reception tables don’t need to all look the same. So why not mix up your centrepieces by using vases of different sizes and shapes. Think outside of just flowers for centrepieces and incorporate organic elements like feathers, agate, and plenty of native greenery.

Photography Shots

Couples today want more than just posed photographs to capture their big day. To really tell the story request that your photographer take “action shots”. Think about shots like doors slowly opening before a bride walks down the aisle, or mum or dad wiping their tears, or (if the photographer has a drone – watch out for this new trend!) an aerial shot of the dance floor.
